Mae Engron was born in 1942 in Indianapolis, Indiana, and fell in love with art at the age of thirteen.  Encouraged by a high school
art teacher but inhibited by poverty, she set her dream of studying art after high school.  It took almost 30 years for that dream to
become a reality as life’s needs intervened as well as injury and disability that kept her from the formal study of art.  After
rethinking her priorities, she enrolled at The Herron School of Art and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 1984.

Engron’s works result from her intense attraction to organic forms and patterns drawn from nature.  She frequently uses foil
imbedded into the canvas to reflect changing light so that colors reflected from the environment fuse with the colors of her
pigments.  These colors and patterns evolve into a finely balanced picture that may appear to be a busy city scape or exotic
gardens.  Frequently, she uses the shape of an egg in her paintings to represent life, birth and regeneration.
